It might seem that such practices as taking up serpents, speaking in tongues, etc., are relics of the past.  During my documentary work, I discovered just the opposite.  There is a younger generation of Signs Followers who enthusiastically follow the main tenants of the older generation, such as obedience to Mark 16, 17-18.  However, they also bring to their religious experiences aspects of their own youth culture:  Facebook pages, cell phones, and gospel music-- not from the staid, traditional Appalachian sources such as Mull’s Singing Convention Songbook, but hard rock gospel music played loudly and with guitar-hero virtuosity.
